三圣殿
Gratitude Haven 永恩亭

永恩亭 (Gratitude Haven), also known as 三圣殿, is the currently the largest columbarium hall at Woodlands Memorial, it is located on level 8 for the use of Buddhists and Taoists.

This hall is watched over by 西方三圣, the Three Saints of the West, who are the central figures of Pure Land Buddhism. The Three Saints of the West are:

  • 阿弥陀佛, Amitabha Buddha;
  • 观世音菩萨, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva; and
  • 大势至菩萨, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva

This branch of Mahayana Buddhism focuses on rebirth in Pure Land, a realm where a Buddhist can more readily attain Nirvana. It is believed that once a person is reborn into Pure Land they are on the path to enlightenment without having to be reborn.

This hall has double columbarium niches and family niches that can store up to 8 cinerary urns. This hall also has ancestral tablets.

This is why he is depicted in many Buddhist columbaria.

Understanding Columbarium

What is a Columbarium

A columbarium is a room or a building for the storage of funeral urns.

The word “columbarium” is derived from the Latin word for dove, “columba”, which was originally used to refer to the compartmentalised housing for doves and pigeons, also known as dovecotes.

However, in modern times columbarium or columbaria (plural) are known to be places for the storage of the cremated remains of the departed. The ashes of the departed are kept in cinerary urns which are in turn placed in the columbarium niches.

Woodlands Memorial is Singapore’s Newest Private Columbarium with air-conditioned Columbarium Halls for Buddhists, Taoists, Christians, Roman Catholics and Freethinkers.

Our team of preplanning advisors are on hand to walk you through the process of selecting a columbarium niche for yourself or your loved ones.

Our columbarium and showroom are open from 9 am to 6 pm from Monday to Sunday. Book an appointment with us to view our columbarium and select a niche that you prefer.

Made of materials like stone, marble, or metal, a columbarium niche is a small, individual compartment or space within a columbarium. Designed to securely hold urns containing the remains, each niche is generally marked with a plaque or engraving that identifies the individual whose ashes are housed there.

Columbarium niches serve as the designated storage areas for the cremated remains of the deceased. They provide a respectful and secure environment for families to preserve the ashes of their loved ones. In addition to offering a permanent resting place, niches also ensure visitors reflect, pray, or pay respects in a peaceful space.

Customisation Options for Columbarium Niches

Plaques and Engravings

Families can choose to have personalised plaques or engravings on the niche. Details may include the name of the deceased, birth and death dates, or even a short inscription or meaningful quote.

Niches are small, individual compartments designed to accommodate urns, often reflecting a family’s preferences or complementing the overall aesthetic of the columbarium.

Columbarium niches can be customised with cultural symbols and heritage-inspired designs that reflect the family’s traditions. These may include Celtic knots, Hindu mandalas, and Buddhist lotus flowers. Elements like regional landscapes and cultural events can also be incorporated.

Small items may be added to the niche to hold additional items such as a lock of hair, jewellery, or other personal belongings.

Our Christian Columbarium Halls

Grace Haven (永惠亭) on level 9 of Woodlands Memorial has single and double columbarium niches that are dedicated to Christians, Roman Catholics and Freethinkers.

We have adopted a Japanese garden theme that embodies harmony, balance and simplicity, this gives families and visitors a sense of calm and tranquillity.

Grace Haven 永恩亭

Grace Haven is the columbarium hall at Woodlands Memorial that is dedicated for the use of Christians and Catholics. We have decorated the hall with a simple cross that is a symbol of Christianity and Catholicism.

Our columbarium niches are adorned with either a cross or a dove with a cross.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between public and private columbariums?

The main difference lies in ownership, access, and cost. A public columbarium is managed by the government or a religious organisation and provides niches for the general public at a more affordable price. In contrast, a private columbarium is operated by private entities, often offering more personalised services, greater flexibility in niche selection, and additional customisation options. Private columbariums may also offer a more serene and exclusive environment. Prices at private columbariums tend to be higher due to the premium services and the potential for more comfortable settings.

The cost of a private columbarium niche in Singapore can vary widely depending on the location, size, material, and customisation options chosen. On average, prices of a private columbarium niche can cost up to $30,000 for a double niche. For family niches that can store up to 8 urns, the cost can be significantly higher.

Yes. Many private columbariums offer pre-purchase options, allowing individuals to select and secure a niche in advance. This option not only alleviates the burden on family members during a difficult time but also ensures that the desired niche is available when needed. Preplanning also locks in prices, giving families peace of mind while ensuring they can purchase the niche that best honours their loved one’s memory.

At Woodlands Memorial, various religious options are available to cater to the spiritual preferences of different individuals and families. The columbarium offers spaces for Christians, Roman Catholics, Buddhists, Taoists, and Freethinkers.

Yes, many columbariums in Singapore offer financing options to make the purchase more manageable. Payment plans typically include installment options that allow you to pay for the niche over a period of time, rather than in a lump sum.
